CBFEM authors
This method represents a transformative approach to connection design, introduced by a team of renowned experts in structural engineering. Their contributions have redefined connection analysis by making it both highly accurate and remarkably practical.

Merlion project
CBFEM emerged from a collaborative R&D initiative between Czech Technical University in Prague, Brno University of Technology, and IDEA StatiCa. The goal was to develop a universal method for designing connections of all types, moving beyond the limitations of specific templates. After years of research, the first CBFEM-powered calculation software was launched in 2014. Since then, the focus has shifted to extensive validation and verification of CBFEM results against international building codes, ensuring its reliability and global applicability.
Meet The Team

Prof. Frantisek Wald
Czech Technical University in Prague
Czech Republic
Frantisek Wald, one of the experts behind CBFEM, is a leading authority in connection and fire design for steel structures. He also contributes to the project team preparing the EN 1993-1-8:2020 standard.
Following the events of 9/11, he conducted a groundbreaking study on the robustness of a multi-story buildings in Cardington. Currently, he serves as a professor and head of the Department of Steel and Timber Structures at Czech Technical University in Prague.

Ing. Lubos Sabatka
Chairman of the Supervisory Board
IDEA StatiCa
Czech Republic
Lubos Sabatka, a pioneer in applying CAE methods to structural analysis, has been developing innovative tools for over 20 years, including Esa Prima Win and SCIA Engineer.

Since 2009, he has focused on advancing the design of structural members, integrating cloud technology, and promoting BIM adoption to address critical gaps in the global workflows of structural engineers and fabricators.

Prof. Miroslav Bajer
Brno University of Technology
Czech Republic
Miroslav Bajer serves as Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Brno University of Technology (BUT) and is a member of the Institute of Metal and Timber Structures. He has contributed extensively to projects on the behavior of systems and elements combining concrete and steel.
His work has earned recognition, including 1st place in the GRAND PRIX of the Society of Czech Architects for the rennovation of the Castle Greenhouse at Lednice.

Ing. Jaromir Kabelac, Ph.D.
Product Owner
IDEA StatiCa
Czech Republic
Jaromir Kabelac leads the Solver team at IDEA StatiCa, bringing extensive experience in CAE modeling across construction, automotive, and aviation industries. Over the past decade, he has developed advanced models for companies like Boeing, Porsche, Airbus, and VW, pioneering innovative CAE methods now used globally. Simulating the behavior of mechanical and structural systems is both his expertise and personal passion.
